Geo -referenced information system for coastal aquifers in the Mediterranean basin PDF Print E-mail
Within the framework of the UNESCO Subcomponent 1.1 on “Management of Coastal Aquifer and Groundwater” of the GEF funded UNEP/MAP “Strategic Partnership for the Mediterranean Sea large Marine Ecosystem” and under the UNESCO Division of Water Sciences, and immediate supervision of the “Groundwater Systems” Section, and in accordance to the Contract for Services of September 2012  between the UNESCO and the UNESCO Chair/INWEB at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, the latter successfully developed a “Geo-referenced information system for coastal aquifers in the Mediterranean basin for the countries participating in the MedPartnership”.

Detailed characteristics of coastal aquifers were collected and analysed by using specific questionnaires, which were completed by the national experts for individual coastal aquifers. In some cases this information was not available because of lack of monitoring or particular hydrogeological studies. Available data were put together and are displayed interactively in a Geo-referenced Internet-based information system hosted in the UNESCO Chair/INWEB portal.

The Geo-referenced information system for coastal aquifers in the Mediterranean basin is located under the "Databases" tab or can be directly accessed in the following link
