Within the framework of the UNESCO Subcomponent 1.1 on “Management of Coastal Aquifer and Groundwater” of the GEF funded UNEP/MAP “Strategic Partnership for the Mediterranean Sea large Marine Ecosystem” (213INT2003) and under the UNESCO Division of Water Sciences, and immediate supervision of the “Groundwater Systems” Section, and in accordance to the Contract for Services of September 2012  between the UNESCO and the UNESCO CHAIR AND NETWORK / INWEB at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, the latter successfully developed a “Geo-referenced information system for coastal aquifers in the Mediterranean basin for the countries participating in the MedPartnership”.
