Groundwater Governance project- third regional consultation meeting, Oct 2012 Print

8th-10th October 2012,  Amman, Jordan

UNESCO Chair INWEB coordinator Prof. J. Ganoulis attended the regional consultation meeting of the Groundwater Governance project organised by the UNESCO-IHP network and held in Amman, Jordan, from 8th-10th October 2012.

These consultations are a fundamental component of the project and focus on the regional characteristics of groundwater use and seek to promote the discussion about the characteristics, the priorities, the visions and the specific challenges to the region.

The primary focus of the project is the set of human behaviours that determine groundwater use and abuse. The objective is to accelerate the adoption of improved groundwater resource governance from resource management institutions to millions of individual users.

The project is expected to define a Shared Vision and Global Framework for Action on Groundwater Governance. These will be derived from:
•    An examination of the state of governance in relation to groundwater supply and demand.
•    The development of regional groundwater governance diagnostics integrating local and national experiences together with perspectives for management at local, national and transboundary levels.
