Conference on Climate, Sustainability and Sustainable Development in semi-arid Regions, Aug 2010 Print

The Second International Conference on Climate, Sustainability and Sustainable Development in semiarid regions - ICID will be held in August 2010, at the Convention Centre of Ceará in Fortaleza.  The event is being organised by ICID, the Environmental Ministry of Brazil and the Government of Ceará. The ICID wants to sharpen the focus on sustainable development of the semiarid regions of the world, to accelerate the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDG), to reduce vulnerability, poverty and inequality, to improve the quality of natural resources and to promote sustainable development.

The specific aims of the conference are to:

  • Identify and focus action on the challenges and opportunities facing the arid and semi-arid regions of the planet;
  • Update knowledge on issues related to these regions: environmental and climate (variability and change), vulnerabilities, impacts, responses of adaptation and sustainable development;
  • Explore synergies between the conventions of the UN concerning the development of semi-arid regions, and
  • Generate information to support governments and society with the aim of improving sustainable economic, environmental, social and semiarid regions.

UNESCO Chair INWEB’s work will be presented at the conference.
