The International Roundtable on "Stakeholder / Public Participation for the Integrated Management of Shared Water Resources - The Case of Nestos / Mesta River Basin", held from 15-16 April 2008, in Sofia, Bulgaria, and organised by the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean and the Global Water Partnership – Bulgaria was attended by INWEB Secretary General Mr. Charalampos Skoulikaris. The Roundtable was organised in the framework of the joint Petersberg Phase II / Athens Declaration Process, GEF IW:LEARN Activity D2, GEF SPM and the Mediterranean Component of the EU Water Initiative. The activity is part of the project "Enhancement of Integrated Management of the Nestos / Mesta River Basin", financially supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project aims at enhancing the involvement of stakeholders in Bulgaria and Greece for the coordinated management of the Nestos / Mesta River Basin in an integrated and sustainable way and at assisting with/ facilitating the compliance with the provisions of the EU WFD.
